Achieving Honors Distinction showcases students’ exceptional dedication to both academic excellence and engagement in those global learning experiences synonymous with Northeastern University. Honors Distinction elevates a student’s profile with future graduate schools and employers and demonstrates their readiness to impact our interconnected world.

This page is intended for Internal Admits, being students who were admitted to Honors after enrolling at Northeastern.


Overview

Honors Distinction represents the mastery of the competencies essential for navigating the global community in which we live: Intercultural Competency, Cross-Cultural Communication, and Global Citizenship.

Students who satisfy the requirements will receive Honors Distinction upon graduation, which will be officially notated on their university transcript. In addition, Honors students who receive Honors Distinction will be awarded the corresponding Honors Global Citizen badge.


Honors Distinction Requirements

The Global Learner Experience (GBST 1012)

The Global Learner Experience (GBST 1012) is a 1 Credit-Hour course that examines global citizenship in the 21st century through concepts of global citizenship, cosmopolitanism, pluralism, and culture.

Honors students have access to an exclusive Honors section of this course which can be registered for through Banner.

Global Work Citizen Module (GEXO 0450)

The Global Work Citizen Module (GEXO 0450) is a 0 Credit-Hour, self-paced course that teaches students the the impact living and working abroad has on on local communities, and helps students explore the value of a global work experience.

This course can be enrolled in through the GEO website.


Signature NU Global Experiences

Students can choose from a variety of approved Northeastern University global experiences to fulfill the requirements for Honors Distinction. Honors encourages students to explore all options to learn more about their associated academic and financial components.

Resources & Accommodations

The John Martinson Honors Program will advise students on global opportunities, academic planning, and financial resources. Students can learn more about funding resources under the Global website tabs.

Honors is dedicated to ensuring students who face barriers to earning Honors Distinction (such as disability, financial hardship, and academic restrictions) are accommodated to the best of their ability. Students are strongly encouraged to contact their Honors Advisor with any questions or concerns.
